FMAA: A Flexible Signal Timing Method for An Isolated Intersection with Conflicting Traffic Flows

Optimizing traffic signal timing can effectively alleviate urban congestion. However, most of the existing methods struggle to deal with conflicting flows in heavy traffic; therefore, more effective are urgently required. In this paper, we propose a flexible method that combines all-red control and adaptive (FMAA) at an isolated intersection. First, consider Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication-based vehicular network environment, which fine-grained information be collected by Road Side Units (RSUs) uploaded cloud server for designing methods. Second, congestion degree Conflict Area (CA) is defined utilized trigger congested cases. Third, tolerance Waiting (WA) perform other Finally, simulations were conducted using SUMO, proposed FMAA performed better than comparative terms average speed, waiting time, vehicles, thus improving efficiency intersection flows.
